Magnetic Induction


The induction lamp is a fluorescent lamp without electrodes.
Light is generated by gas discharge through magnetism.
Rings with metal coil (ferrite) create an electromagnetic field around a glass tube containing gas using a high frequency generated by an electronic ballast.
The discharge path forms a closed loop that causes the acceleration of free electrons collide with mercury atoms and excitation. This excitation produces visible light to pass through the phosphor coating.

The amalgam of mercury content in induction lamps is easily recyclable.

  • Wide range of ambient operating temperature : -30 ° C - + 60 ° C
  • Total absence of short circuits risks due to the lack of electrodes
  • Constant light output even in the face of voltage variations of 20%

LED


A LED lamp is a light-emitting diode (LED) product that is assembled into a lamp (or light bulb) for use in lighting fixtures.

LED lamps have a lifespan and electrical efficiency that is several times better than incandescent lamps and significantly better than most fluorescent lamps, (except the Induction lamps, that have greater lifespan and similar efficiency!).
Some chip-led are able to emit more than 100 lumens per watt.

PRINCIPLE

The LED consists of a chip of semiconducting material doped with impurities to create a p-n junction. As in other diodes, current flows easily from the p-side, or anode, to the n-side, or cathode, but not in the reverse direction.

Charge-carriers electrons and holes flow into the junction from electrodes with different voltages. When an electron meets a hole, it falls into a lower energy level and releases energy in the form of a photon

This effect is called electroluminescence and the color of the light is determined by the band gap energy (see picture) of the materials forming the p-n junction.

Based on the materials used for the LED the electroluminescence effect can happen with different energies corresponding to near-infrared, visible, or near-ultraviolet light.

Most materials used for LED production have very high refractive indices. This means that much light will be reflected back into the material at the material/air surface interface. Thus, light extraction in LEDs is an important aspect of LED production, subject to much research and development.

A LED is usually small in area (less than 1 mm2), and integrated optical components are used to shape its radiation pattern and assist in reflection to improve the output.

LEDs present many advantages over other small light sources, including:

  • lower energy consumption
  • longer lifetime
  • smaller size
  • faster switching
  • Greater reliability.

In addition, the life of fluorescent lighting (except for the Induction lamps!) is also reduced by frequent switching on and off (this is not the case for LED. Degradation of LED dye and packaging materials reduces light output to some extent over time.
Initial cost of LED is usually higher.

With research into organic LEDs (OLED) and polymer LEDs (PLED), cost per lumen and output per device have been improving rapidly according to what has been called Haitz's law, analogous to Moore's law for semiconductor devices

Some LED lamps are made to be a directly compatible drop-in replacement for incandescent or fluorescent lamps. An LED lamp packaging may show the lumen output, power consumption in watts, color temperature in kelvins or description (e.g. "warm white") and sometimes the equivalent wattage of an incandescent lamp of similar luminous output.

LED chips need controlled direct current (DC) electrical power; an appropriate power supply is needed. LEDs are adversely affected by high temperature, so LED lamps typically include heat dissipation elements such as heat sinks and cooling fins.

In case of Magnetic Induction lamp adoption, because it is a technology without electrodes, the fact that there are neither filaments nor electrodes, implies that the lamps have 100,000 hours lifespan, superior of any other technology on the market. This enables us to extend warranty period up to 5 years

50% ENERGY SAVINGS


LED and Magnetic Induction are the best technologies currently in the market from the point of view of light conversion from consumed watts (greatest lm/w ratio). This is the reason why implementing a replacement of obsolete technologies it is possible to achieve 50% and higher energy savings.

NO MAINTENANCE COSTS


Induction Lamps have a 100,000 lifespan, that means eleven years of continous operation without any maintenance intervention. Similarly, LED lamps have a substantial duration (50,000 hours) that ensures substantial costs cut.

UNIFORM AND STABLE LIGHT


Both LED and Magnetic Induction generate a high-quality light because constant and homogeneous. In particular, Induction lamps, with respect of any other technology based on fluorescence, ensure reduced harmonic distortion. In addition, they can be offered in a wide set of different colors (from 2700 to 6500 °K) and have a very good color efficiency (Ra> 85)

Thanks to homogeneous and stable light, both LED and Magnetic Induction are technologies that ensure a better lighting of the locations, with more effectiveness and without flickering, creating a more comfortable and healthy environment reducing the risk of eyes wound.

CO2 EMISSION REDUCTION / LOW ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT


In case of fluorescence by induction, compared with other similar technologies based on such principle, the lamps are easier recyclable because the mercury amalgam inside the lamp is in solid form. In addition the high-efficient conversion lm/W ensure a reduction of consumed energy and so a lower CO2 emission. For the above reasons, both LED and Magnetic Induction are low environmental impact and eco-sustainable technologies.
